  3. Food and drinks are delivered to your lane. The menu has kids meals and vegetarian and gluten-free options.

What to expect

Book a lane for 1.5, 2 or 3 hours, or call ahead to check that a drop-in lane is open. Bowling shoes come in sizes from toddler 8. Ask for bumpers, a ball ramp or a light ball. The score shows on a screen. Servers bring food to your lane. Nearby there's an arcade with more than 45 games and sports-bar TV screens. Change anything.

What if my child won't look at the schedule or story?

That is common at first. Leave it where the moment happens, point to one picture at a time, and keep it low-pressure. Many kids warm up to it after a few calm tries, in their own time.
