The first day at a new school.

New building, new faces, a new routine all at once. Knowing what the day looks like first makes a big day feel smaller.

Social story

My First Day

Soon I am going to start at a new school.

A new school has a new room and new people.

Feeling a little nervous about a new place is okay.

My teacher is there to help me.

I learn where things are, a little at a time.

At the end of the day, I get to go home.

What to expect

A new school is a lot of unknowns stacked together. A picture of how the day goes, in order, hands your child the shape of the day so the newness has edges. You know which parts will feel biggest. Change anything.

One tip from a dad who's been there

Ask to visit the classroom before day one if you can, and send the printed schedule with your child so a teacher can point to where they are in the day.

Common questions

How early should we start preparing for the new school?

A week or two of looking at the story and photos is plenty; longer can build dread. If you can, visit the building once when it is quiet. The goal is familiar, not memorized.

Can I make this in Spanish?

Yes. Every tool and this page exist in Spanish, and the printed page comes out in the language you choose. Use the language switch at the top.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup and nothing you type is stored. Make it, print it, done.
