Getting ready for Walmart's sensory-friendly hours.

Every Walmart U.S. store turns some things down from 8 to 10 every morning, local time: the TV walls show a still picture, the radio is off, and the lights go lower where the store can. Plan the trip for those two hours.

Hours

Sensory-friendly hours every day, 8 to 10 am local time. Store opening times vary, so check your store's hours on walmart.com before you go.

When it's quieter

“We operate sensory-friendly shopping hours at all U.S. stores from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily.”

The program changes “the TV walls to a static image,” turns “off the radio,” and lowers “the lights where possible.”

  • The hours are the same every day, so pick the morning that fits your week. Aim to be at the checkout before 10.
  • “Where possible” means some stores lower the lights and some don't. The TV walls and the radio are the changes Walmart names for every store.

Three things to know

  1. Every Walmart U.S. store runs sensory-friendly hours from 8 to 10 am local time, every day. Walmart made them daily on Nov 10, 2023, with “no planned end date.”
  2. Every Walmart U.S. store has Caroline's Carts: a shopping cart with a large seat that faces the person pushing and a five-point harness, so a caregiver doesn't have to push a wheelchair and a cart at once.
  3. On a hard day, Walmart's pickup and delivery let you skip going in.

  • The hours began as a Saturday test during back-to-school 2023. Walmart says the feedback was “overwhelmingly positive,” so it made them daily.
