Sensory help, in the stadium's words

In their own words weidnerfield.com

“Guests who feel overstimulated can access sensory items free of charge at the merchandise stand on the west side of the stadium.” “Weidner Field provides complimentary earplugs for guests that are available at our merchandise stand on the west side of the stadium.”

“Sensory kits are available upon request for those guests needing sensory accommodations to help them navigate certain elements of the match. Kits can be located at either one of our two apparel locations on the concourse.”

Our note Weidner Field is home to Switchbacks FC soccer and other events. The stadium names no sensory-friendly matches, so the sensory kit and earplugs are the supports to plan around. Pick them up on the way in, before the stands fill and it gets loud.

Our note Once you leave the stadium you can't come back in on the same ticket. Plan breaks inside: a walk on the concourse, a snack, or a few minutes away from the seats.

Our note Fireworks are possible at events. If your kid is sound-sensitive, have the earplugs or your own headphones in before kickoff.

Three things to know

  1. Free sensory items, sensory kits and earplugs at the merchandise and apparel stands on the concourse, including the one on the west side.
  2. No re-entry. “Once a ticketed guest exits the stadium from an event, that guest is not allowed to re-enter.” The only exception is a lightning delay.
  3. Clear bags only, up to 18 by 12 by 6 inches or a one-gallon bag, plus a clutch up to 6.5 by 4.5 inches. Diapers and wipes go in the clear bag; diaper bags aren't allowed.

What to expect

Gates open an hour before the match. Clear bags only, and everyone's bag is checked at the gate. Free sensory kits and earplugs are at the merchandise and apparel stands on the concourse. Crowds cheer, and some events use fireworks. Once you leave, you can't come back in, so breaks happen on the concourse. Change anything.

Common questions

What if my child won't look at the schedule or story?

That is common at first. Leave it where the moment happens, point to one picture at a time, and keep it low-pressure. Many kids warm up to it after a few calm tries, in their own time.
