Getting ready forWe Rock the Spectrum Colorado Springs.
A sensory gym on Austin Bluffs Parkway with swings, a trampoline and a calming room, plus sensory-friendly open play with fewer kids, headphones, adjustable lights and the music down or off.
Monday to Thursday 9 am to 7 pm, Friday 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 3 pm. “Hours vary based on private events, please check our schedule or call for more info.”
The gym “offers dedicated Sensory-Friendly Open Play hours every Monday.” “During these times, we intentionally limit capacity to create a less crowded space and offer sensory supports such as noise-canceling headphones, adjustable lighting, and the option to lower or turn off music as needed.”
Sensory open play is “just our normal open play experience with fewer guests in the space at one time.” “Spots are limited and tend to fill quickly, so we strongly encourage reserving your admission pass in advance.”
Our note Sensory-friendly open play is a two-hour pass you book online, and Monday is its regular day. The gym doesn't list the clock times, and sessions sometimes land on other days, so book ahead or call 719-432-8383 to ask which times are sensory-friendly that week.
Our note It's the same gym and the same equipment, just fewer kids at once. If your kid finds crowds hard, that is the visit to try first.
Sensory-friendly open play caps the number of kids and offers noise-canceling headphones, adjustable lights, and music turned down or off.
There is a calming room in the gym.
No shoes on the gym floor. Grown-ups need socks, and the gym sells them if you forget.

A parent or guardian stays with the child the whole time.
Equipment: swings, crash mats and pillows, a zip slider, a trampoline, an indoor play structure for climbing, sensory toys, and an arts and crafts area. The gym sells healthy snacks and drinks.
Booking online cuts the wait at the door, and the waiver can be signed ahead on the gym's site.
Rockin' Noon-Year's Eve, Dec 31 from 11 am to 1 pm: a countdown to noon, crafts, snacks and a character visit, $20 per child, adults free. It isn't billed as a sensory session.
Check in at the front desk, shoes off at the edge of the gym floor, and a grown-up stays close the whole time. There are swings, a trampoline and other sensory equipment, and a calming room for a reset. During sensory-friendly open play there are fewer kids, and the gym can hand out headphones, dim the lights and turn the music down or off. Change anything.
Common questions
What if my child won't look at the schedule or story?
That is common at first. Leave it where the moment happens, point to one picture at a time, and keep it low-pressure. Many kids warm up to it after a few calm tries, in their own time.
