Sensory help, in the museum's words

“Sound-reducing earmuffs sized to most children are available to borrow at the Admissions Desk.”

“If you and your child need a quieter spot to take a break from stimulation, please ask a staff member to help you find a good place.”

“During Morningstar Access, we have a limit of 100 guests”

  • Staff also have sensory resources like fidget toys and weighted blankets, and adaptive tools like adaptive scissors and crayons. Return the earmuffs to any staff member when you leave.
  • Morningstar Access is for children with disabilities or medical needs and their families. The registration form asks about your kid's needs or accommodation requests, so you can tell the museum ahead.
  • Weekday afternoons during the school year are usually quietest. Weekends, holidays, school vacation weeks and summer are usually busiest.

  • Admission is $24 for adults and children 1 to 15; under 12 months free. Advance online tickets are highly recommended.
  • Parking: the museum has no garage of its own. Seaport parking runs $25 to $45; the museum validates at four nearby garages for a few dollars off (pull a paper ticket at the gate). South Station is about a three-block walk, and kids 11 and under ride the MBTA free with a paying adult.
  • Food and drink only in the first floor lunchroom; consider leaving nuts and nut butters at home.
  • Lockers and an unattended coat room are on the first floor. Stroller parking is limited and some exhibits can't fit strollers.
  • Family restrooms on all three floors. An adult-size changing table is in the first aid room; ask staff to unlock it. The main elevator serves all three floors.
